Bodywork is very beneficial for any horse, regardless of age, whether they’re a competitive sport horse, a recreational partner, or a pasture puff.

Equine bodywork enhances the performance and quality of life of horses by reducing stiffness, increasing flexibility, improving their attitude, and assisting with shortening the recovery time after an injury.

Bodywork helps more than just the muscle. It can assist horses in relaxation, improving blood and lymphatic circulation, reducing stress on the nervous system, and improving joint motion and flexibility.

If your horse is displaying any of the following symptoms, bodywork may be able to help:

-
Girthiness
-
Bucking
-
Rearing
-
Head tossing
-
Not picking up/not holding leads
-
Lack of flexion/lack of bend
-
Unsoundness
-
Unevenness in gait
-
Biting
-
Crookedness

What To Expect During A Session
Your horse’s session will start with a quick chat so I can go over anything you’d like to add that wasn’t included on the intake form. This helps me get the full picture before we begin.

From there, we’ll take a look at your horse’s current movement—either in hand or under saddle, depending on what makes the most sense for them. This gives me a better feel for how their body is working dynamically, not just standing still.

Once we’ve done that, we’ll pick a spot where your horse feels relaxed and safe. We’ll be there for about an hour to an hour and a half, so it’s important that the space is quiet and as distraction-free as possible.

When your horse is settled, I’ll do an initial hands-on scan to feel for areas of tension, restriction, or imbalance. I’ll talk you through what I’m noticing and explain which techniques and modalities I think will be most helpful for your horse that day. Once you’re comfortable with the plan, we’ll get started.

Throughout the session, expect some quiet moments. These pauses are intentional—they give your horse time to process what’s happening and allow their nervous system to integrate the work. This is a great time to ask questions or observe any changes you see.

Many horses will show release signs such as:
• licking and chewing
• yawning
• twitchy or droopy lips
• deeper breathing
• relaxed posture
• fidgeting or pawing
• sighing or snorting
• pandiculations

These responses are completely normal. It’s their way of communicating with us, and it often tells me I’m on the right track.
As I work, I’ll share what I’m feeling and noticing so you can understand what’s going on in your horse’s body.

When we’re finished, we’ll go over anything I’d like you to keep an eye on over the next few days. Depending on what your horse needs most, I may also recommend a few exercises or simple homework to help support their progress between sessions.

And please reach out anytime if you have questions or something comes up after the appointment. Your horse’s wellness is a team effort, and you’re a huge part of that team. I’m always happy to collaborate with your vet, farrier, saddle fitter, or any other members of your horse’s care team.

Thank you for trusting me to support your horse.
